We get a lot of questions and strive to answer the most common ones below.
Can Beer & Bible go together?
Short Answer: Yes!
Long Answer: The Bible is pretty clear that drinking, in itself, is not sinful. The first miracle of Jesus was turning water into wine at a wedding (John 2:1-11) which is pretty compelling evidence that Jesus wasn't opposed to alcohol consumption. Although wine is the most common alcohol mentioned in the Bible, Biblical scholars agree that beer was also widely consumed at the time and could be encompassed in some of the original terms now translated as "wine."
Is this group for me?
Short Answer: Probably.
Long Answer: We strive to create an atmosphere where everyone is welcome. We have men and women, young and old, atheist and lifelong believers, members of different backgrounds, and even have kids show up for a burger on occasion. However, we want to ensure that no one is tempted to fall into sin and therefore we encourage those with prior alcohol addiction to fervently pray prior to joining us. If this group isn't for you we will gladly help find you one that is!
Should I come if alcohol is an issue for me?
Short Answer: Beer & Bible may not be the best place for you.
Long Answer: Although drinking beer is not a requirement for attendance, beer makes an appearance at most of our events. The last thing we want is to cause anyone to stumble. The Bible addresses this in Romans 14 and we put "beer" in our name to ensure everyone knows exactly what they are getting into. Beer is a tool we use to share the Gospel of Christ and we would hate for someone to come to one of our groups and be tempted.
What do you think about getting drunk?
Short Answer: It's sinful.
Long Answer: The Word is pretty clear throughout both the Old and New Testaments (Proverbs 23:20, Ephesians 5:18) that drunkenness is sinful. We never want to encourage crossing that line but we do enjoy a good cold brew. Really though, can you blame us?
Is it just beer?
Short Answer: Nope!
Why go there? - Beer & Bible that is.
Short Answer: To Meet People Where They Are.
Long Answer: As Christians, our mission is to bring Jesus not just to those on the other side of the world but those right down the street. Many people don't feel comfortable within the walls of a church or showing up at a strangers house for a Bible Study but may feel comfortable in a bar. If there are people in the bar that don't know Jesus (which there usually are), we'll meet them there!
What do I wear?
Short Answer: Scrubs?
Long Answer: Well... if you're in the medical profession and don't have time to change scrubs are just fine. Otherwise, wear whatever makes you comfortable.
Are you affiliated with a church?
Short Answer: Yes... and No!
Long Answer: The Beer & Bible ministry started out of the Underground Church in Tampa, FL. Although a few of our leaders are members there each Beer & Bible location is made up of members from different churches, denominations, and belief sets.
Do I have to believe to attend?
Short Answer: Absolutely not!
Long Answer: We welcome people in every stage of life with every belief set. Got questions? Great! Just interested in the Bible? Awesome! Never heard of Jesus? Excellent - we'd love to share him with you! If you're not quite ready to make the jump and visit one of our groups that's fine too. Simply Contact Us and one of our leaders will reach out shortly.
